COMPAGNON DE ROUTE

Spirituality in Critical Times

‘A well-designed life is a life that makes sense. It’s a life in which who you are, what you believe, and what you do all line up together.’ Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life . Burnett, Bill; Evans, Dave (2016).

We all need someone to share our journey with, especially in critical times. Compagnon de Route means essentially that: a companion along the way with whom I can share my deepest thoughts and feelings and discover how to live more creatively and more fully. Some might call this spiritual guidance for spiritual refers simply to the deeper dimensions of life, including, meaning, identity, and purpose.

My own journey has been a search for a more adequate framework and practices to address these deeper dimensions in an increasingly complex world – an appropriate spirituality, if you like. It has included:

  • Working as a priest in a post-colonial Africa for several years.

  • Studying spirituality in the Gregorian University in Rome

  • Completing a Ph.D on ecology and theology with Thomas Berry as my mentor.

  • Consulting on religious issues to the UN Environment Program

  • Helping to write an Earth Charter for the United Nations Earth Summit of 1992

  • Developing and teaching the practice of Dialogue to many organizations, from business to health care.

  • Working with my local community to address today’s challenges: climate change, immigration/refugees, prisons…

  • Leading what I call Meditation-Dialogue

  • Assisting with special moments of transition in people’s lives: weddings, funerals

  • Writing and speaking extensively on spirituality and everyday life.

All of this I bring to my work as a personal guide in today’s challenging world. I draw from the various sources I have explored, including ecology and philosophy, theology and spirituality, poetry and music, and various practices, including meditation and especially Dialogue, which I define as a method for working with life.

The focus may begin with your personal life but since we spend a lot of our time at work, the focus can readily turn to your professional life when we can explore how to integrate your personal values into your work life. If you are in leadership the goal will be to help you create a workplace where people feel they belong and can therefore thrive.

I work with both individuals and groups: face to face or remotely via phone, Facetime, etc. My normal fee is $150 for an individual 60 min session (a program of six sessions costs $800) and $30 pp for a group 90 min session. A sliding scale is available.  I can be reached at danann0305@gmail.com or at 914 977 3097/914 645 8816 (cell)

Michele Cortese, Esq., Executive Director Center for Family Representation, Inc., New York:   “Personal Guidance with Danny Martin is simultaneously rigorous and luxurious…much the same as a sunny day weeding or planting in a beloved garden or, as he might say, indulging in a carefree and active dance.  You can expect him to integrate spirituality, poetry, history, mythology, science and really any great teaching, as he helps you explore the link between your own goals, your sense of purpose and that of a wider world. I came to Danny to further understand and achieve a better orientation to my work, and have found our conversations intriguing, restorative and inspiring. I am not sure where I will land with my work, but I feel I’ve gained a framework that will hold me in good stead no matter what I pursue.”
